Biography

James Dennis Flannigan, was born on February 25, 1943 in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Richard Edgar and Gertrude Bertha (Schmidgall) Flannigan. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed on September 7, 1980 by Rev. William Stockman at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. He attended school in Benson, graduating from Benson High School. Jim served his country in the Army as a Vietnam Era Veteran from March of 1967 to March of 1969. Jim worked at Tyler and then at Superior, in Morris, for twenty-five years. For many years he lived in Benson before moving to Morris in 1989, to Donnely in 1992, and to Alexandria in May of 2011.

Jim belonged to the American Legion. His hobbies and enjoyments included watching races, camping, fishing, and hunting. Jim was called from this life on December 20, 2012, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. He attained the age of 69 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Jim is survived by his children: Scott (Sherri) Flannigan of Isanti, MN, Debra Pike of Temple, TX, Todd (Georgiann) Flannigan of East Bethel, MN, David (Heather) Flannigan of Richfield, MN, and Karrie Bahr (fiancé Alan Johnson) of Osakis, MN; five grandchildren: Ann Lund, Christy Pike, Jimmie Pike, Jessica (Dan) Pierson, and Travis Flannigan; two great-grandchildren: Rileigh Ann Hennig and Leighton Marie Hennig; brothers and sister: Thomas (Elaine) Flannigan of Willmar, Caroline Hagen of Benson, Patrick (Susan) Flannigan of Oakdale, and Richard (Laurie) Flannigan of Stillwater; nieces and nephews: Sherry (Jonathan) Fahl, Sue (Mike) Pennings, Stacy (Tom) Beyer, Lori (Lowell) Matthys, Mike (Patty) Flannigan, Jessica Flannigan, Patrick Flannigan, Kayla Flannigan; aunts and uncles: Florence Gosslink of Lynnville, IA, Eva (Lloyd) Bebee of Salem, NJ, Howard Schmidgall of Hancock, MN, Doris Strom of Shorewood, MN, Anita Gayken of Montevideo, MN, and Arlene Ohland of Alexandria, MN; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, Richard and Gertrude Flannigan; step-mother, Ada Flannigan; and nephew, Steven Hagen.
