Harriet Hanson, 89, of Benson, Minnesota, died on Wednesday morning, September 11, 2019 at the Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation will be held at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 p.m. on, Friday, September 13, and continue from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturday, September 14, followed by the funeral service at 10 am at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, Benson. Interment will be in Lake Hazel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Harriet Hanson was born in Perth, North Dakota, on May 13, 1930, the daughter of Ben and Helga Grann. She grew up in North Dakota attended Perth grade school and graduated from Perth High School. She earned her teaching Degree at Minot Teacher’s College in Minot, North Dakota. After college she lived and taught school in BelCourt, North Dakota, Forest Lake, Minnesota, and taught at Southside Elementary School in Benson. On December 30, 1958, Harriet was united in marriage to Derald Hanson in Rolla, North Dakota. This union was blessed with over 56 years of marriage and two sons, Brad and David. After marriage they moved to Minneapolis, Kimball, Burnsville, then returned to Benson in 1971 where they resided on the family farm. They lived on Lake Minnewaska in 1990.
She enjoyed playing cards, walks by Lake Hassel, and photography. Harriet loved this area, farm life, and telling stories. She was called from this life on Wednesday morning September 11, 2019 at the Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson.
Harriet is survived by her two sons Bradley (Jean) Hanson, of Benson and David Hanson of Benson; 6 grandchildren, Brent (Chelsey) Hanson, Maria (Jacob) Huston, Jacob (Cassandra Borlaug) Hanson, Sam Hanson, Jenna (Trevor) Ahlbrecht, and Jacqui Hanson; 3 great grandchildren, Jack Hanson, Sawyer Hanson, and Joseph Huston; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Helga, a brother and his wife John and Lenore Grann, a sister and her husband Selma and Art Steele, a daughter-in-law Kimberly Hanson, a brother-in-law Myron Hanson, and a sister-in-law Ardis Johnson.
