Richard Lee Kuhnau was born June 13, 1941 in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Henry Albert and Frances Margaret (Voges) Kuhnau. He was baptized July 17, 1941 and was confirmed April 3, 1955, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chokio. Dick was raised in rural Chokio and graduated from Chokio High School, Class of 1959. After high school, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963, where he served on the USS Boxer.
On November 30, 1963 Dick was united in marriage to Charlotte Annette Currey at First Congregational Church in Appleton, by Rev. John Krueger. This union was blessed with over 55 years together and four children: Timothy, Rodney, Randy, and Annette. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute as an electrician. Over the years Dick farmed and worked as an electrician for Clemens Electric for many years. He enjoyed stock car racing, duck hunting, collecting coins, playing darts, and throwing horseshoes.
Dick passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019. He attained 78 years, 2 months, and 22 days of age. Dick is survived by his wife Charlotte of Appleton; son, Randy (Robin) Kuhnau of Goldsboro, NC; daughter, Annette (Rick) Lowry of Holloway; daughter-in-law, Debra Kuhnau of Goldsboro, NC; 10 grandchildren: Joshua (Dana) Kuhnau, Elizabeth Kuhnau, Faith Kuhnau, Allison (Chris) Kniedler, Bethany Kuhnau, Seth Kuhnau, Jason Lowry, Cindy Lowry, Wendy Lowry, and Brian Lowry; 6 great-grandchildren: Danica and Bristol Kuhnau, Cody and Connor Kniedler, Elliot Lowry, and Gretchen Henneberg; siblings: Mary (Art) Wagner of Frankfurt, IL, Joann (Loren) Reidinger of Appleton, Donald Kuhnau of Montrose; sister-in-law, Shirley Grothe of Benson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frances Kuhnau; his sons: Timothy Kuhnau and Rodney Kuhnau; his brothers: Duane Kuhnau and Dale Kuhnau; and his parents-in-law, DeWillis and Rose Currey.
