Melvin Ascheman

Melvin Michael Ascheman, 86, of Benson, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday Afternoon, August 9, 2019, at the Swift County Benson Hospital with his family at his side.  Visitation will be at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota, on Monday, August 12, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and continue from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 13, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. A meal will follow the mass at McKinney’s in Benson. Interment will follow at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Danvers, Minnesota.  Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Melvin Michael Ascheman was born September 13, 1932, to Henry and Rose (Bach) Ascheman of Holloway, Minnesota.  He was raised on a farm in Holloway and attended  country school.  He was drafted into the military in 1954 and spent two years in White Sands, New Mexico.  He then returned to the farm and October 19, 1957 he married his wife, Margaret (Margo) McGeary of  Danvers, Minnesota, and they were blessed with 61 years of marriage and four children.  In 1957 they moved to Minneapolis where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and the City of Minneapolis.  In 1966 they moved back to Swift County and began his life long dream of farming.  He remained on their farm until 2005 when they moved to Benson to retire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rose, brothers Richard, Harold, Roy, and Robert,  Sisters, Rosie McRoberts, Margie Beyer, and a sister in infancy.

Melvin is survived by his wife Margaret (Margo), son Michael (Donna) Ascheman of Kensington MN, daughters Marcia (Greg) Barnum of Scottsdale AZ, Kathryn (James) Holleman of Benson MN, and son Patrick (Donita) Ascheman of Holloway MN.  Eleven grandchildren, Laura Ascheman, Missy (Brent) Koehl, Nick (Kayla) Ascheman, Mitch (Matie Theuringer) Ascheman, Zach (Sarah) Barnum, Shelby (Taylor) Freetly, Molly (John) Kline, Tony (Maggie) Holleman, Grant, Sophie, Karly Ascheman, 5 Great Grandchildren, Kinley, Cullen, Aiden, Austin, Maizee, brother Ronald (Donna) Ascheman, sisters Agnes (Franklin) Miller, Carol (Virgil) Mesenbrink, Rita (Don) Johnson, Bernice (Dave) Wente, sisters-in-law Liz (Dick) Ascheman, Connie (Roy) Ascheman, and Ann (Harold) Schmidt, brother-in-law Jim (Rosie) McRoberts many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
