Wendell Floyd Bausman

April 5, 1928 — May 31, 2019

Wendell Floyd Bausman was born April 5, 1928 in Kasson, Minnesota, the son of Floyd and Edna (Olson) Bausman. He was baptized in Kasson and was confirmed at the Milan Methodist Church on October 5, 1941 by Pastor Gustor A. Eckhoff. He grew up in the Milan area and graduated from Milan High School in 1946. He farmed with his father and worked for Larson Gravel after high school. On December 27, 1952, Wendell was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Yvonne Elaine Tostenson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Milan. The couple was blessed with two sons and 66 years of marriage.

Wendell served in the Army during peacetime from 1952-1956 and was stationed in Mineral Wells, Texas and Greenland. He was very proud of his time in the Army and worked on making the first road north in Greenland.
After discharge, he farmed and worked at the Watson Elevator while Vonnie taught in several rural schools. Wendell also worked as a milkman for Marigold Dairy and delivered milk and food to rural families throughout West Central Minnesota. They moved to Coon Rapids where Wendell worked for Prudential Life Insurance. In 1967, they moved to Benson where he continued to work for Prudential and worked with Sutfin Realty, which became Benson Realty. Benson Realty was purchased by the Swift County Bank and became Swift County Real Estate. His son Kevin joined him in the real estate and insurance business in 1986. They worked together for several years before Wendell retired.

Wendell was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church where he ushered and served on the church council and a variety of boards and committees. He was also an active Lions member for over 50 years and proudly worked with many other Lions volunteering at activities including the popcorn stand at the baseball and softball fields. His passion was baseball among other sports and rarely missed watching the Minnesota Twins. He was also a member of the American Legion Post for many years and served and helped with their projects.

Through the years, Wendell enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, bowling, traveling with Vonnie, going to coffee with his buddies in the mornings and afternoons, and attending sporting events or watching them on TV. He was especially proud of his children and five grandchildren and spent countless hours attending their various activities in Detroit Lakes and Benson. He was a fun-loving, well-liked person and felt truly blessed with family and friends. Wendell is survived by his wife Vonnie of Benson; children: Kevin (Peggy) Bausman of Benson and Brian (Kristin) Bausman of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren: Molly (Jared) Weismantel of St. Paul, Anne Bausman of St. Paul, Megan (Jason) Huus of Perham, Rachel Bausman of St. Paul, and Nathan Bausman of Detroit Lakes; sister Donna (Jerome) Jerve of Jordan; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Edna Bausman.
