Bernice Evelyn Wanberg was born on July 12, 1917, at the Ole R. Svor Home in Camp Lake Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole R. and Selma Ellingson Svor. She was baptized on July 22, 1917 at the St. Pauli Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on August 16, 1931. She grew up on the farm in Camp Lake Township. She attended Benson Public Schools.
On November 24, 1945, Bernice was united in marriage to Walter Ellsworth Wanberg, at the home of Ole R. Svor. This union was blessed with over 59 years of marriage and a daughter Nancy.
Bernice was a loving Grandma to Matthew, Kelly, Kristi, Kayla and Josh. Kelly couldn’t say Bernice when she was little so she renamed her Grandma Micey and that is what all the kids lovingly called her. She would make treats for them to have when they got off the bus at her house. All the grandchildren loved her doughnuts, Kringla, and her graham cracker/coconut bars. They would request Grandma Micey’s Bars for all celebrations and when coming home from college. She nursed them thru sickness, attended Grandparent activities at school, and went to their games. She loved having Matthew for the summers as he was growing up. Bernice never got to know her granddaughter, Leslie, but she and Walter would have loved her dearly as she is a second Nancy. Losing Nancy at age 35 to cancer, and then Matthew at the age of 20 was very difficult for Bernice and Walter to bear. Their life then centered on the Svor children, and later, the great-grandchildren. Nancy gave them an adult black poodle named April which was their baby. When April died, they were lost without her. The Svor children gave them a black poodle puppy. Walter and Bernice named her April and she truly was their baby to raise.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway, WELCA, and quilted at church. She liked attending circle and she would bring the children with her. She loved old time music and was always tapping her feet to the music. She was passionate about the Svor ancestry and kept the family history up to date. She was called from this life on Friday morning, May 24, 2019, at the Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson. She attained the age of 101 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Bernice is survived by five grandchildren, Leslie (Steve) Hanson, Corey Fuhrman, Kristi Svor, Kayla (Darrin) Carlson, Joshua (Jami) Svor; ten great grandchildren, Riley Hanson, Marlee Hanson, Carly Fuhrman, Jonah Fuhrman, Jacob Fuhrman, Graham Carlson, Annie Carlson, Charlie Carlson, Carson Svor, and Carter Svor; nieces and nephews; and several other relatives and friends.
