Emma Lena Christina Radcliffe

Emma Radcliffe, age 96, of Appleton, died Tuesday, May 21 st in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center. Visitation will be held 2 – 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 25 th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway. Pastor Donald Klatt will officiate. Zniewski Funeral Home Vaala Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Emma Lena Christina (Sachs) Radcliffe was born November 5, 1922 in Fairfield Township, Minnesota, the son of William and Mary (Kohler) Nelson.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Emma grew up on a farm in rural Holloway and graduated from country school.  On November 20, 1939, Emma was united in marriage to Herman Sachs in Appleton by Rev. Person D.T. Beadle. This union was blessed with 32 years of marriage and three children.  Emma was united in marriage to Amos Radcliffe on April 27, 1973, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Dan Diego California.  This union was blessed with 29 years of marriage.

Emma was a wonderful homemaker and also was an assembly worker for FingerHut.  She lived in rural Holloway until she moved to San Diego, California in the early 70’s.  She moved back to Appleton approximately 12 years ago.  Emma was active in church and was a member of the San Diego Blue Grass Society.  Among the many things she enjoyed were baking and decorating cakes, Emma’s Gut Bucket Band, cooking, and sewing.

Emma was called from this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Appleton Area Heath Services – Care Center.  She attained the age of 96 years, 6 months and 16 days.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Sachs of Appleton; step-sons, Richard Radcliffe and Alan Radcliffe; 8 grandchildren: Dr. William Sachs of Brainerd, Amy (Troy) Goehring of Ellendale, ND, Tony Sachs of Appleton, Nina (Chad) Nelson of Willmar, Thomas Sachs of Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Naomi Gades (Leonardo Llames) of Scottsdale, AZ, Sarah (Troy) Tyson of Zumbro Falls, Jeremy (Jodi) Gades of Holloway; step-grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Nelson; husband, Herman Sachs on March 21, 1972; husband Ammos Radcliffe on July 24, 2002; son, Merlyn Sachs; daughters, Vonda Gades and Dianna “DeeDee” Hansen; step-daughter, Joyce Radcliffe; and Emma’s siblings.  Blessed be the memory of Emma Lena Christina Radcliffe.
