Bernice Ruth Rodi

October 30, 1925 — May 3, 2019

Bernice Ruth Rodi was born October 30, 1925, at home in Camp Lake Township, Swift County, the daughter of Bernt and Ruby (Hanson) Thompson. She was baptized November 20, 1925 and confirmed June 11, 1937, at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. She grew up in Swift County attended Country School District 73, Riverside School and Murdock High School.

On February 14, 1942, Bernice was united in marriage to Oswald Rodi by Pastor Rhone at the Rolling Forks Parsonage in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County. This union was blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage. They lived on a farm just south of Camp Lake and Bernice farmed alongside Oswald and was a wonderful homemaker. For a short time, she also worked at Fingerhut in Benson. They moved to their farm place in 1946 and lived there until Bernice moved to Benson in 2005. In March of 2017, she became a resident of Gabriel House.

Bernice was active in St. Pauli Lutheran Church and Shepherd of the Hills, and was a member of the Sons of Norway and Nordfjordlag. She was great at cooking, sewing, and quilting. She always enjoyed playing music with Oswald for community events. She loved spending time with her family and friends and being involved with her grandchildren and their projects.

Bernice passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at Gabriel House. She attained the age of 93 years, 6 months and 3 days. She is survived by her children, Darlene Dergan of Benson, Rholand “Ron” (Diane) Rodi of Benson, and Marjorie (Ray) Anderson of Murdock; grandchildren: Ashley Dergan, Clifton Dergan, Eric Dergan, Jessica Albrecht, Jason Anderson, Melissa Wrobleski, Angie Rodi, and Anita Rodi; great-grandchildren: Crystal Allen Butterly, Quentin Dergan, Logan Dergan, Brooke Anderson, Madison Anderson, Shelbie Anderson, Harley Albrecht, August Albrecht, Kale Wrobleski, Lily Wrobleski, Blake Flaten, Libbey Pendill, and Isabella Flodstrom; and siblings, Thomas Thompson of Willmar and Betty Nordby of Spicer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oswald Rodi on January 21, 2002; her parents, Bernt and Ruby Thompson; grandparents, Jacobine and Hans Hanson; sisters: Helen Rodi, Ellen Maunum, Mable Gronseth, Gladys Stai, and Clara Carter; and brothers, Benard Thompson and Donald Thompson.
