Mark Douglas Welling was born October 23, 1964 to Vincent and Dianne (Bjornstad) Welling in Marshall, Minnesota. He was baptized in November, 1964 at First English Lutheran Church in Marshall. He confirmed his faith at Big Bend Lutheran Church in May, 1980.
Mark was raised in the Big Bend/Milan area, graduating from Milan High School, Class of 1983. After high school he attended Willmar AVTI, where he graduated with a degree in Ag Business. On June 23, 1990 he was united in marriage to Brenda Reuss at Big Bend Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with three children: Jordan, Justin, and Breanna.
Mark began his working years at Cenex in Montevideo as a custom applicator. He then worked for Gilbertson Farms before farming full-time. Mark was hired as a part-time snow plow driver for MNDOT in 2002 and was hired on full-time in 2006. With dedication and hard work, Mark was promoted to the position of Transportation Specialist with MNDOT.
Mark was a long-time member of Big Bend Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. In addition, he was a member of the Swenoda Township Board, the Boondock First Responders and the Milan EMS. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, pontoon rides, Mexico vacations and spending time at Lake Mary with family and friends. More than anything however; Mark loved his family and found great joy in watching his children participate in any and all activities. He spent countless hours in various sport complexes watching his children compete and he was so proud of each and every one of their accomplishments.
Mark passed away unexpectedly, April 16, 2019 in Alexandria, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Welling of Montevideo; children: Jordan Welling of Appleton, Justin Welling (Emily Kahnke) of Clark, South Dakota, and Breanna (Ben Hausmann) Welling of Evansville; mother, Dianne Welling of Milan; siblings: Janell Welling of Montevideo, Gwen (Doug Beyer) Schroeder of Alexandria, Timothy Welling of Appleton, and Matthew (Jennifer) Welling of Paynesville; parents-in-law, Marge and Jerry Olson of Danvers; brothers-in-law, Jeff Reuss of Benson and Jay (Trina) Reuss of Willmar; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
