Myrtle Thompson was born November 7, 1922 in West Bank Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Clara (Snelling) Olson. She was baptized December 8, 1922 at West Bank Lutheran Church and was confirmed July 4, 1937 at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Myrtle attended District #85, Borgen School, through the eighth grade.
On January 10, 1939 Myrtle was united in marriage to Leonard Tommy Albert Thompson in Milbank, South Dakota. This union was blessed with over 53 years together and three children: Robert, Richard, and Jean. Myrtle was a homemaker and enjoyed making a house a “home.” In her younger years she loved cooking and baking…especially when making the grandchildren their favorite foods! She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she had been a member of WELCA, taught Sunday school and weekday school for 15 years.
Myrtle passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center. She attained 96 years, 4 months, and 28 days of age. Myrtle is survived by her sons: Bob (Arlene) Thompson and Rick (Lori) Thompson, both of Alexandria; 6 grandchildren: Nicole (Randy), Chad, Kristi (Laura), Michael (Carole), Cassandra (Andy) and Jayson (Sandy); 6 great-grandchildren: Lexi, Zachary, Connor, Katelynn, Aiden, and Jayson Jr.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard on July 24, 1993; and daughter, Jean on January 28, 2019.
