Vernon “Bud” Chevalier, 89, Benson, Minn., died Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m., with a 5 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Prayer Service, Sunday, January 20, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Visitation will continue from 10–11 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2019, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Malachy Catholic Cemetery in Clontarf.
Vernon George Chevalier was born June 8, 1929, in Hoff Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Louis George and Ervila Mary (Goulet) Chevalier. He was baptized at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf and was confirmed on July 12, 1939, at St. Malachy by Archbishop Murray. Vernon grew on the family farm in Hoff Township, Pope County and graduated Dist. 57 grade school.
On February 27, 1960, Vernon was united in marriage to Donna Marie Ascheman at St. Malachy Catholic Church by Fr. R.G. King. They farmed the family farm until they retired in 1998 and moved to Benson. Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to country music, and reading.
Vernon passed on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. He attained the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 9 days.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Chevalier of Benson; sons, Dennis (Kimiko) Chevalier of Forest Park, IL, and David Chevalier of Benson; daughter, Sr. JoAnn Chevalier O.S.F. of Rochester; and sister, Ardella Geyer of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ervila; brothers, Richard Chevalier and Gordon Chevalier; and sister, Arlene Bly.
