Mary J. Johnson, 71, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at the Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be held Monday, January 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Mary Josiephine Johnson was born July 4, 1947, in Glenwood, Pope County, Minnesota, the daughter of James Myron and Norma Jannet (Thorson) Johnson. She was baptized on July 27, 1947, at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church in Pope County. She was confirmed on November 4, 1962, by Rev. Sucher at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Mary grew up in Rolling Forks Township in Pope County and Benson and graduated from Benson High School Class of 1965.
Mary was a nanny for the Fragodt and Bausman families, worked at Finger Hut, Meadow Lane Nursing Home for 25 years, and Homestead North and South. She was a member of TOPS and Sons of Norway; and was the Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for 44 years. When she wasn’t busy with her many activities, she enjoyed embroidery and gardening.
Mary passed through this life into the eternal care of our Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She is survived by her siblings: Theresa (Brad) Nelson of Litchfield, Paulette Johnson, John Johnson, and Jacqueline Johnson all of Benson; and beloved nieces and nephews.
May was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Diane in 1968, and her grandparents. Blessed be the memory of Mary Josiephine Johnson.
