Funeral Service11:00 AM ,Saturday, December 29, 2018St. John's Lutheran Church, Moyer Twp 1490 10th Street NW Holloway, MN 56249 Robert Wallace Haak was born in North Star Township, southwest of Springfield in Brown County, MN, on March 28, 1928, to Walter F. Haak and Mathilda I. (Kettner) Haak. He was baptized in the Christian faith on May 13, 1928 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN, and was confirmed on May 31, 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Moyer Township, rural, Holloway, MN. He attended rural and parochial schools in southern Minnesota. The family moved to the Holloway area in 1941 and Bob graduated from Holloway High School in 1946. On July 2, 1960, Bob and Darlene M. Reimers were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, MN. To this union three children were born, Julie Kay, Janet Beth, and Brian Robert. Bob was a dedicated husband and father. Upon the death of his father in spring of 1949 Bob took over the farming operation and continued until 1981 when he discontinued farming for health reasons. Bob enjoyed being involved in the community. He served on several boards including Church Council, Swift County Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment, Swift County Historical Society, and was Chair of the Minnesota Valley district of the Minnesota Senior Federation. He also served as a Township Supervisor and on the resolution committee for the Minnesota Township Association. Bob and Darlene fostered several children over the years and he enjoyed sharing his home in that way. His hobby was woodworking and he made many different items for family and friends, along with refinishing furniture. He was an excellent shot and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending sporting events and his children’s activities. Bob and Darlene went deer hunting in South Dakota several times with family, and traveled with their children to northern Minnesota and Washington state. He played cards with friends often, and sang solos at weddings and funerals many times over the years. When grandchildren came into his life he enjoyed sharing his interests with them, and was a much called-upon babysitter. Bob was called from this life on December 18, 2018, at the Appleton Care Center. He is survived by his wife Darlene Haak of Appleton; children: Julie (Jeff) Youngs of Paynesville, Janet (Tom) Brandau of Moorhead, and Brian (Deb) Haak of Eden Prairie; six grandchildren: Adam, Kayla, and Benjamin Youngs, Kate and Daniel Aarness, Christian Haak; many other relatives, and loyal friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mathilda Haak; sister, Marjorie (Larry) Baumgartner; and parents-in-law, Adolph and Viola Reimers. God bless the memory of Robert Haak. |
