Thielke Avenue Appleton, MN 56208 Richard David Eckberg was born June 27, 1956 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, the son of Robert William and Arlene Maxine (Wold) Eckberg. He was baptized in July, 1956 and was confirmed in May, 1970, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Richard “Dick” was raised in the Ortonville area, where he graduated, Class of 1974. He then attended the Police Academy in Arden Hills and then Mankato State University. On October 2, 1993 he was united in marriage to Wanda Kay Cassels at First United Methodist Church in Appleton. This union was blessed with over 25 years together. Over the years, Dick worked as a 911 Dispatcher for Big Stone County Sheriff’s Department, Chief of Police for the Madison and Clinton Police Departments, and was a security guard in Chaska. He was a past member of the Ortonville Fire Department, the Ortonville Ambulance Service, and a member of the American Cancer Society. Dick enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings with family and friends. He was also a speaker and advocate for cancer patients. Dick passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center. He attained 62 years, 5 months, and 8 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Eckberg of Appleton; sons: Brandon Eckberg of Ireton, IA and Bradley Eckberg of Savage; stepson, Shawn Peterson of Mankato; three grandchildren: Adrianna, Brianna, and Dominic Eckberg; mother, Arlene Eckberg of Appleton; siblings: Cheryl (Mark) Okeson of Roseau, Nancy (Taylor) Tubbs of Appleton, Mike Eckberg of Appleton, and Kris (Harold) Halle of Appleton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eckberg Sr.; brothers: Robert Eckberg Jr. and James Eckberg; parents-in-law, Herb and Marie Cassels. Blessed be the memory of Richard David Eckberg. |
