Roger David Ahrndt, 83, of Benson, Minn., died Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Visitation will be from 1:30 – 3 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2018, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery at a later date.
Roger David Ahrndt was born January 28, 1935, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of John F. and Clara T. (Antolick) Ahrndt. He attended Country School in Cashel Township and graduated from Benson High School, Class of 1952. On June 19, 1953, Roger was united in marriage to Irene Marie Retrum at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church North. He lived and worked on the farm his entire life until moving to Benson in 1991 and then retiring in 1995. Roger also was a seed salesman from 1952 to 1992. Among the many things Roger enjoyed were fishing, sports, his grandchildren, farming, raising cattle, and going on trips to purchase cattle.
Roger passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Bethesda Grand. He attained the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He is survived by his wife, Irene Ahrndt of Benson; children and grandchildren: Rhonda Schmeichel of Alexandria and her children, Jeremiah Schmeichel and Ryan Schmeichel of Willmar, and Daniel (Melissa) Schmeichel of Scottsdale, AZ; Jody (Larry) Hempeck of Butterfield and their children, Kelly (Jared) Wohlford and great-grandson Bennet Wohlford of Odin, and Andrew (Mikayla) Hempeck of Mountain Lake; Jon (Ruth) Ahrndt of Benson and their children, Michael Ahrndt of Fargo, ND, Sarah Ahrndt of Spearfish, SD, and Julia (Jordon) Lakoduk of Minot, ND; Paul (Kathy) Ahrndt of Benson and their children, Matthew Ahrndt of Fargo, ND, Aaron Ahrndt and Mariah Ahrndt of Benson; Carol (David) Wrightson of Trimont and their children, Nolan Wrightson and Hunter Wrightson of Trimont; and James Ahrndt of Benson and his children, Hali Ahrndt and Eli Ahrndt of Benson.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Ahrndt; daughter, Janel Ahrndt in 1969; and two sisters, Lavina Walstrom and Arlene Bang. Blessed be the memory of Roger David Ahrndt.
