Marjorie Ann Lou (Holstad) Evenson was born January 18, 1928, to Agnes (Norby) Holstad and Henry Holstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Swenoda Lutheran Church. Marge grew up on a farm in Swift County where she helped her dad with farm work. She dreamed of becoming a dancer, and although she never became one, she did marry her life-long dancing partner, Floyd O. Evenson, at Our Redeemer’s parsonage on December 7, 1944. They were married for almost 60 years.

Early in their marriage, they started out on a farm near Benson. They moved to Montevideo where she worked in various jobs while raising Sharon and Jeanne. In 1952, they managed to buy a small farm south of Benson, living there for the next 55 years. Gradually, the farm expanded as well as the family where five more children were born, Ron, Bonnie, Becky, Michelle, and Troy.

Marge was a true partner in farming, assisting in the chores, raising chickens, tilling, plowing, bailing, tending a garden and preserving the produce. She made every celebration special for her children. She sewed garments for her children as well as her grandchildren. She was an excellent baker, especially bread, and we anticipated the smell and taste of her cinnamon rolls when we got off the school bus. Marge believed in the power of prayer and taught us to pray and led through example, a strong faith. She was passionate about her family and instilled in each of us the importance of family values. Marge was active in church circle, ORW, and co-chaired the Smorgasbord dinner.

After her children were older, she took swimming lessons at the Benson pool. She joined a bowling club and enjoyed time with her bowling buddies. Marge belonged to a Homemakers group and, later, Coterie. She took up golf late in life. It was a sad day when Marge could no longer golf. She often watched it on TV.

Marge was a strong woman to the end, overcoming many health problems, including cancer, and the loss of many loved ones. She will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and sister-in-law.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; daughter, Linda Marie; parents Agnes and Henry Holstad; sister, Virginia (Orel) Evenson; brother, Darwin; sisters Gloria and Violet (in infancy); sister in laws and brother in laws, Amy and Louis Stay; Viola and Melvin Norby; Orel and Virginia Evenson; Verna and Luverne Myhre; Raynold and Carol Evenson; and Dean Evenson.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Ron) Cin, Glenwood; Jeanne Baynes, Eden Prairie; Ron Evenson, Benson; Bonnie Cruz, Grapevine, TX; Becky Minnerath, Eden Prairie; Michelle Arntzen, Woodbury; and Troy (Ileana) Evenson, Chaska; brother, Dennis (Karen) Holstad, Edina.
