Sharon Lenore Hanson

Sharon Lenore Hanson was born July 19, 1942 in Appleton, Minnesota, the daughter of Wilfred and Leonora (Maynard) Stock.  She was baptized August 23, 1942 and was confirmed June 9, 1957, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton.  Sharon was raised in Appleton where she graduated from Appleton High School, Class of 1960.  She earned a 2 year accounting degree and also completed courses in Women’s Studies.  On November 27, 1960 she was united in marriage to Reuben Hanson at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Clifford Nelson.  This union was blessed with one daughter, Terri, and over 54 years together.

During her working years Sharon was employed as a day care provider, worked for Swift in Marshall, for B&H Electronics in Marshall and was plant manager in Appleton, and owned Shari Dee Fabrics.  For many years she and Reuben owned and operated Reuben’s Red Owl and Hanson’s Family Foods in Appleton.  After retirement Sharon worked as a Nurses Aid in both Appleton and Benson.  She also worked in the Emergency Admit department at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.  Sharon was the first woman to be elected to the City Council in Appleton.  She also served as an election judge in Appleton for many years, was an active member of the Appleton Golf Course, and served as President of the Zion WELCA.  Sharon enjoyed playing Bridge, Whist, and any other card game that you can think of!  She also liked to play Scrabble, Boggle, Sorry, and to visit over a Diet Coke or coffee with cream.  Sharon adored her grandsons and her great-grandchildren…she loved to care for them whenever she could.

Sharon passed away September 24, 2018 in the St. Cloud Hospital.  She attained 76 years, 2 months, and 5 days of age.  Sharon is survived by her daughter, Terri Scott (Todd Rasmussen) of Benson; grandson, Ethan Scott (Libby Cable) of the Twin Cities; brother, Ron (Pam) Stock of Weed CA; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; grandson, Eric Scott; parents, Wilfred Stock and Leonora Barr; sister, Dianne (Loren) Johnson; parents-in-law, Matt and Signe Hanson; brothers-in-law, Sigvald (Alice) Hanson and Harold (Eunice) Hanson; sister-in-law, Helen  (Marvin) Zimmerman.
