Graveside Service12:00 PM, Thursday, August 9, 2018Benson City Cemetery Benson, MN 56215 Alvin Charles Henry Nissen Sr. was born August 14, 1925, at home, in Hoff Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Nicholas and Elsa (Schutt) Nissen. He was baptized October 25, 1925 by Pastor W.F. Sprengeler at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. Alvin “Short” was confirmed on April 10, 1938 by Pastor E.A. Hempeck, also at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was raised on the home farm in Hoff Township and attended school at District 89 in Pope County. On April 29, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Jacobs in Webster, South Dakota. This union was blessed with 72 years together and four children: Al, Randy, Craig, and Wendy. Alvin and Dorothy lived, farmed, and raised their family in Hoff Township. Alvin was a past member of the District 89 School Board and the Hoff Township Board of Supervisors. After retirement, Alvin and Dorothy spent many winters in Southern Texas. He loved playing cards, fishing, and most of all…spending time with family. Alvin passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 in St. Cloud Hospital. He attained 92 years, 11 months, and 22 days of age. Alvin is survived by his wife Dorothy Nissen of Benson; children: Al (Arlene) Nissen of Clontarf, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Nissen of Spicer, Craig Nissen and special friend Mary Konieczny of Willmar, and Wendy (Duane) Kriese of Spicer; 8 grandchildren: Scott (special friend, Robin) Nissen, Brian Nissen, Kara (Roger) Ebnet, Toni Ardoff, Tina (Nick) Schrantz, Terry (Corean) Nissen, Nathan (Laura) Kriese, and Amanda (Garrett) McCain; 17 great-grandchildren: Jean, Brian, Alexa, Amanda, Brett, Andrew, Christopher, Matthew, Nick, Kaden, Tyler, Mitchell, Colton, Elin, Connor, Carson, and Grant; great-great-grandson, Walker; brother-in-law, Lawrence (Venoie) Jacobs Jr. of Milan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Nissen; parents, Nick and Elsa Nissen; brothers: Rudolph, Glenn, Edward, and Raymond; and sister, Selma Fox. Blessed be the memory of Alvin “Short” Nissen. |
