Dorothy Coy

Dorothy (Amundson) Coy was born March 8, 1921, the daughter of Edwin and Mabel (Thompson) Amundson in Starbuck, Minnesota. She was baptized March 10, 1921, by Pastor H.O. Koefod and confirmed March 14, 1935, by Pastor Casper Johnshoy at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Dorothy grew up in Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1938 and St. Cloud State Teacher College in 1941. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1973.Her first teaching job brought her to Danvers, Minnesota where she met Michael “Jerry” Coy. They were united in marriage on June 28, 1947, at Church of the Visitation Catholic Church. This union was blessed with 59 years of marriage, 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.Dorothy was an Elementary Teacher in Danvers and Benson until her retirement in 1983. She also worked with her husband at Coy’s Store in Danvers. Dorothy was active in the Church Altar & Rosary and was the Church Organist for many years. She was also a member of the Danvers Senior Citizen’s Group.Dorothy had a great appreciation for the beauty of the United States and enjoyed traveling. She also loved to cook, can, make jams and jellies, garden, birdwatch, watch political shows on Sunday mornings, and spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Dorothy passed Monday, August 6, 2018, in her home under Hospice care. She attained the age of 97 years, 4 months and 22 days.She is survived by her children: Michael (Michael Brasky) Coy of Seattle, WA, Mary Coy of Minneapolis, MN, Thomas (Annette) Coy of Everett, WA, and Anne (Sherman) Olson of Danvers; grandchildren: Tom (Janae) Olson, Kristen (Ryan) Gallagher, Zach (Kelli) Coy, Nick (Anna) Coy, and Matt (Trish Englund) Coy; and great-grandchildren: Nathan Coy, Lucas Olson, Derek Olson, and Afton Gallagher.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael Coy in 2006; sisters, Myra (Ev) Knutson and Sally (Sig) Femrite; and Dorothy’s husband’s family: Kathleen Coy, Margaret (Donald) Regan, Dorothy (Bob) Kollitz, and Fr. William Coy.
