Lola Maria (Rosemeier) Kennedy was born on June 16, 1925 in Murdock, Minnesota. The daughter of Ernest Rosemeier and Mary (Krattenmaker) Rosemeier. She died July 15, 2018 at her home in Murdock surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Lola was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was baptized the day the cornerstone was laid for the present day church in June of 1925. Lola grew up on the Rosemeier Family Farm outside Murdock and attended Murdock High School, graduating in 1943. Lola went on to sell War Bonds for the WWII effort at Swift County Bank in Benson. She also waitressed and made pies at the Murdock Café and waited for Harold to return from overseas.
Lola was united in marriage to Harold Joseph Kennedy “Sputz” on August 31, 1946 by Father Walsh at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. This union of 29 years was blessed with six children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Lola was happiest when her dining table was full and she was serving family and friends. She was the queen of hospitality.
Lola also was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 5342, Council of Catholic Women, Liturgy Committee including placing and maintaining flowers for Holy Days, served as Sacristan, laundered linens and vestments for clergy, taught junior high religion classes, secured funds for the refurbishing of the Manger Figurines, made homemade cabbage salad dressing for the Fall Suppers, and was awarded the Bishop’s Medal for commitment and service to Sacred Heart.
Lola was employed at the Swift County Assessor’s Office for 20 years, weighed sugar beets, served on the HRA Board, was a member of Murdock City Council and offered tours as the Murdock House docent. Politics was of special interest to Lola and she had the great opportunity of meeting President Obama. Lola loved to travel, especially her trips to Sweden, Germany, London and New York.
Lola is survived by her six children, Susan Okeson (Virg), Colette Kavanagh (Chuck), Patricia Tucker (Larry), Cherry, Peter (Teresa Clarke), Paul, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband Harold Joseph Kennedy in 1975, her parents Ernest and Mary Rosemeier, and her brother Merlin.
