Douglas “Doug” James Bruner was born August 9, 1949, the son of Lester and Ruth (Reed) Bruner in Appleton, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Faith. He grew up in Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School. Doug served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a proud veteran and retired fire fighter of the Appleton Fire Department after 15 years of service.
Doug loved fishing and owned a Bait Shop in Appleton in a building that was an old Arc. He was a jack of all trades and after retirement he built his own house and became a welder and opened Bruner’s Blacksmithing. Among the many things he enjoyed were the Vikings Football games and watching his pet birds out his kitchen window.
Recently, through the Baptist Minister, Doug reconnected with his religious beliefs. Doug passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Appleton Area Health Services – Nursing Home. He attained 68 years, 10 months, and fourteen days of age.
Doug is survived by his children, Douglas “Doug” R. (Mary Jo) Bruner of Appleton, MN and Leah (Corey) Haug of Brookings, SD; five grandchildren, Dillon and Dalton Haug, Tyler, Tyra and Douglas Jason Bruner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Bruner; son, Jason Douglas Bruner; parents, Lester and Ruth Bruner; and brother, Dennis Bruner.
