Richard “Dick” Schirmer, age 74 , of Fridley, Minnesota, died peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2018, at St. Benedictine Nursing Home in New Brighton, Minnesota. He was born on August 29, 1943 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Lila Schirmer. He attended school in the Benson area graduating from Benson High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Morris in 1964 and was accepted for post graduate work at the University of Iowa.
Dick was a teacher for many years in Forest City and Shenandoah, Iowa and in St. Cloud, St. James, and Woodbury, Minnesota. He owned an antique and furniture store in Alexandria, Minnesota from 1975 to 1981. He married Ruth Ann Stark in 1985 in Hoffman, Minnesota. She died unexpectedly in January of 1996.
Dick enjoyed basketball and he followed several of the local teams. He loved Southern Gospel music and always attended several concerts. At the time of his death he was retired.
He is survived by an aunt, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Harold in 1994, his mother Lila in 2004, and his wife Ruth Ann in 1996.
