Frances Helen Holtan

Frances Helen Holtan was born on July 19, 1926, in DeGraff, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Margaret (Goggin) Dean. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church.  She grew up and attended grade school in DeGraff and graduated from Benson Senior High School.

On September 6, 1958, Frances was united in marriage to James Harlan Holtan at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff by Father Trainor. Together they were able to share in over 59 years of marriage.  They made their home in Montevideo, Minnesota where they lived for over 40 years. Fran was very proud of her Irish heritage and she even served as Miss Shamrock in DeGraff. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, and watching sports on the T.V., especially tennis.

On Saturday morning, May 26, 2018 she was called from this life at her home at the Clara City Senior Living Complex. She attained the age of 91 years, 10 months and 7 days. She is survived by her brother-in-law Ron (Kathy) Holtan; sister-in–law Lorraine Carpenter; nieces; nephews; godchildren; other relatives and friends, and special friend Melody Winter. She was preceded in death by her husband James on November 7, 2017, her parents James and Margaret Dean, and her five sisters Mary Quinn, Catherine Juntilla, Margaret “Mi” Dean, Patricia Mattheisen Knutson, and Dorothy Ann Dean.
