Blanche Victoria Cronen, 97, Benson, Minn., died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 5–7 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will continue from 9:30–10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at the church with Rev. Art Wiese officiating. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Blanche Cronen was born on November 10, 1920 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Ernie and Hattie (Rear) Otterholt. She was baptized at Big Bend Lutheran Church and confirmed in May of 1934. In 1940, she graduated from the Milan High School. Blanche was united in marriage to Lloyd Cronen on October 10, 1940. They lived and farmed in Grace Township, Chippewa County and then moved into Benson in 1977. She was an active member of the Big Bend Lutheran Church and later the Jevnaker Lutheran Church before becoming a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway and active in the church ladies WELCA. She loved gardening, baking, dancing, playing cards with friends, going to county fairs, 4-H meetings, softball games, watching her three sons at wrestling matches, and most of all being with her family and grandchildren.
Blanche is survived by two sons, William “Bill” (Sharon) of Benson and Gerald “Jerry” (Betty) of Montevideo; and daughter-in-law Connie Cronen of Alexandria. Grandchildren: Cindy (Chad) Connelly of Benson, Cheri (James) Hughes of Montevideo, Eric Cronen of Montevideo, Natasha (Matthew) Mortenson of Danvers, Mary (Aaron) Sanders of Montevideo, Sarah (Sean) McManus of Mpls., and Rachel (Adam) Skare of Victoria. Eight great-grandchildren: Layton and Marissa Connelly, Grace and Cowan Mortenson, Patrick and Anna Sanders, and Maxwell and Nora Skare.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd in 1981; son Dennis; granddaughter Anne Cronen; and sister LaBonna and brother-in-law Al Borchers.
