Maynard “Dale” Wassink died Monday, April 23, 2018 in his home in Dunedin, FL from a recurrence of colon cancer. Dale was born to Herman and Henrietta (Blohosky) Wassink on May 5, 1939 in Wadena, MN. He graduated Appleton, MN High School in 1957. Dale joined the Air Force where he served 20 faithful years until 1978, earning an electrical engineering associate’s degree. He went on to work as an engineer and Program Manager for Honeywell, retiring from Honeywell/Group Technologies in 1994. After his second retirement, he helped run Rebound Sports in Tampa, opened a Firestone franchise, as well as doing numerous odd jobs including heading up security at the Dunedin Blue Jays stadium.
Dale was married in Manchester, England to Dorothy (Liz) Nixon for 10 years from 1960-1970 and adopted twin girls, Terry and Sherry, in 1967 in Munich, Germany. Dale was also married to Patricia “Pat” for 4 years from 1975-1979 and is survived by her daughter, Sonya. Dale is survived by his daughters, Terry Wassink and Sherry (Paul) Vaughan; grandsons, Paul Jr. (Yue) Vaughan and their daughter, Chloe, Mark (Zhaleh) Vaughan; brother, Tim Wassink (Edith Sadergaski); numerous nieces and nephews, including Michelle, Gregg, David and Jon. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Francis Muenchow, and brother, Gerald “Sonny” Wassink.
