James Steven Ekse, 66, of Benson, Minn., died Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2018, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
James Steven Ekse was born March 1, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of James and Hilma (Hindoien) Ekse. He was baptized April 6, 1952 by Rev. Raymond Olson and confirmed in September 24, 1967 by Rev. Warren Sorteberg at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Jim grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Trinity First Lutheran grade school and Washburn High School. Jim worked for Red Owl until 1989 and then at Jerry’s Foods until August of 2002 and retired after 33 years in the grocery store business. He was a dedicated employee and knew his job well. After retirement he moved to Benson. Jim enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal and Monitor News, watching TV, and bringing up the neighbor’s garbage cans to help them out. He visited almost daily with all of the staff at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church.
Jim passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, peacefully in his home. He attained the age of 66 years, 1 month and 12 days. He is survived by his cousin, Shirley (Butch) Sherman; second cousins: Jeff Sherman, Jessica (Brett) Spencer, Nicole (Jamie) Stubbe, and Ann (James) Wininger; all of South Dakota.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, and grandparents.
