Erik Petersen, 94, of DeGraff, Minn., died Friday, March 16, 2018, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 12 – 2 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Erik Petersen was born January 12, 1924 in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Ludvig and Margarethe (Rasmussen) Petersen. He was baptized at home. Erik grew up in the Benson area and graduated from Benson High School in 1942. He served his country during WW II in the United States Army. After his service, he worked in Greenland for 3 summers on site preparation for the Air Force Base. He also worked at Benson Market for 25 years. Erik was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, Bingo, going to the casino, reading western books, and playing harmonica. He loved going for cruises with Steve, visiting the lake with his nieces and nephews, and spending time with his beloved black labs.
Erik passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He attained the age of 94 years, 2 months and 4 days. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Mary Jean) Petersen of Glenwood; sister, Inga Fabry of Oakdale, CA; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Erik was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eiler (Vera), Donald (Rita), and Louis (Mary); and sisters, Margaret (Steve) Stepanich, Ellen (Clifford) Skarsten, and Dorothy (Sylvester) Steffl.
