Helen Ann Larson died peacefully on December 30, 2017 at her home in Sauk Rapids at the age of 90. Helen was born to Carl and Anna (Seitz) Sterk on September 6, 1927 in Painsdale, Michigan and graduated from Painsdale High School in 1944 and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth in the Spring of 1948. That Fall she began a teaching career in Murdock, MN that spanned 47 years in the Murdock and KMS school districts. Helen married Byron Edward Larson of Murdock on July 8, 1950 in South Range, Michigan. She lived in Murdock until January of 2014 when she moved to Sauk Rapids to be closer to her family.
Helen loved her family, reading, crossword puzzles, political debate and meeting with her coffee klatch. She was active in the Altar and Rosary Society of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock and gave official tours of the church to visitors. Helen was known by some as the “Geranium Lady of Murdock,” and many will remember the dozens of potted red and white geraniums that she placed on the sidewalk down Orleans Street and US Highway 12 every Spring.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Byron Larson, her four brothers and her sister. She is survived by her children Brendan (Debi) Larson of Sauk Rapids and Kristin Larson (Scott Noble) of Portland, OR; her grandchildren Nathan (Jill) Larson, Beth (Ethan) Grev, and Ryan Larson; her great grandchildren Isabelle and Scarlette Larson and Vivienne Grev; and many nieces and nephews.
