Funeral Service2:00 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2017Zion Lutheran Church-Appleton, MN 23 East Rooney Appleton, MN 56208 Louise Meyer Olson was born August 16, 1933 in Big Stone County, Minnesota, the daughter of Dean and Ella (Shelstad) Meyer. She was baptized September 26, 1933 and confirmed May 4, 1947 at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll, MN. Louise graduated from Dist. #12, Appleton High School, Moorhead State, the U of M in Morris, and from the College of St. Thomas with her Master’s Degree. On March 31, 1956, Louise was united in marriage to Roger A. Olson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Following their marriage, they resided in Watson until they moved to a farm north of Montevideo. In March of 1962, they moved to a farm east of Appleton where Louise continued to live after her husband died. Louise taught school from 1952 until retiring in 1996. She started teaching at District #26 rural school in Big Stone County. Her teaching career then took her to Madison, Appleton, and Bellingham. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Education, she was a consultant at Mid-West Special Education Co-op in Morris for many years. She then taught Special Education in Dawson until her retirement. She belonged to MEA/NEA, West Central Reading Council, Association for Special Ed (Emotional & Behavior Disorder section), and the Local Teachers Association in all the Districts she taught in. Louise belonged to Home Makers in Chippewa County and Edison Township, Swift County. She was also active in Zion Lutheran Church belonging to Altar Guild Circle and serving as an usher and on Church Council. Louise enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, cross stitching, crafts, golfing, taking Community Ed classes, playing cards, and visiting her children and grandchildren. Louise passed away December 20, 2017 at St. Cloud Hospital. She attained the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 4 days. She is survived by her children: David (Cindy) Olson of Columbus, IN, Mark (Leslie) Olson of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Lynda Goodwin of Bay City, OR, and Robert (Debra) Olson of Montevideo; 10 grandchildren: Austin Olson, Derick (Mary Kathleen “Katie”) Olson, Sheila Olson, Kevin Olson, Joshua (Jennifer) Goodwin, Samantha (Eric) Aleshire, Amy (Patrick) Culhane, Lisa (Jeffrey) Bayerl, Melissa Bickman, Samantha (Tyler) Andrews; 13 great-grandchildren: Julie and Ethan Olson, Braden and Lucas Seegers, Molly and David Olson, James and Rosealyn Aleshire, Ellie Goodwin, Grace and Easton Bayerl, Alli Maslonkowski and Zachary Hanrahan; brother, Donald (Helen) Meyer of Appleton; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Olson in 1978; parents, Dean and Ella Meyer; and a sister, Delores (Donald) Wilkening. Blessed be the memory of Louise Olson. |
