Leroy Louis Swenson was born November 21, 1927, at home, in Akron Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota, the son of Maurice and Lillian (Weeding) Swenson.  He was baptized in 1928 and was confirmed in 1940, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Odessa.  Leroy was raised in the Correll area, where he attended school through the ninth grade.  He then attended Odessa High School, graduating in 1946.  On March 27, 1949 he was united in marriage to Vivian Kavanagh.  This union was blessed with over 68 years together and four children: Keith, Colleen, Lynn, and Lynette.  Leroy and Vivian raised their family on the home farm near Correll.  He retired from farming in 1987 due to failing health.

Over the years Leroy was involved with various local, state, and regional conservation boards.  This included two years as State President and was also chairman of the Regional RC&D Board.  He was a past member of the Correll School Board and served various capacities at church.  Leroy served both in the Army and the National Guard during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, spending nine months in Korea.  He was a member of V.F.W. Post #4955 in Appleton, where he was a past Commander.  Leroy enjoyed hunting, caring for animals, and working with and riding horses.  He was a long-time member of the Trailblazers Saddle Club, serving as President and was a member of the Drill Team.  Above all, Leroy loved spending time with family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Leroy passed away December 3, 2017 in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center.  He attained 90 years and 12 days of age.  Leroy is survived by his wife, Vivian of Appleton; children: Colleen Kahler of Montevideo, Lynn (Joy) Swenson of Correll, and Lynette (Dan) Arnold of Holloway; 8 grandchildren: Brian Kahler, Patrice (Shaun) Luker; Jacob (Laura) Munsterman, Joseph, Jennifer, and Joshua Arnold, Ember (Dan) Ludvigson, and Cody Swenson; granddaughter-in-law, Vicki (Mark) Patterson; 8 great-grandchildren: Allison Kahler, Jay and Sawyer Luker, Aiden, Jaden, and Asher Ludvigson, Adalynn Munsterman, and Kylee Patterson; brother-in-law, Loren (Bonnie) Kavanagh of Appleton; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Hagstrom of Alexandria, Norma Swenson of Worthington, and Vera Kavanagh of Bemidji; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by this parents, Maurice and Lillian Swenson; son, Keith Swenson; grandson, SFC. Matthew Kahler; brothers: Leland and Vernon Swenson; nephews: Greg Swenson and Richard Brabender.
