Oscar M. Engebretson

March 18, 1933 — June 24, 2017

Oscar Martin Engebretson was born March 18, 1933, at home in Kragero Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, to parents Fritz and Marie (Carlson) Engebretson.  He was raised in the Milan area, graduating from Milan High School in 1952.  After graduation Oscar enlisted in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, where he was stationed in Germany.  On October 29, 1960 he was united in marriage to Grace Geneva Hanson in Alberta, Minnesota, by Rev. A.J. Daniels.  This union was blessed with 51 years together and two daughters: Deb and Darcy.

Oscar loved to visit…particularly while shaking dice or playing pull-a-buck.  He also enjoyed listening to old-time music, watching all types of sports and western movies.  Whenever he was asked about Milan, he would smile and say “It’s like living in paradise!”  Above all, Oscar cherished the time he spent with his family…especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Oscar passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Appleton Area Health Services –Hospital.  He attained 84 years, 3 months, and 6 days of age.  He is survived by his daughters: Deb (Russell) Olson of Danvers and Darcy (Wayne) Nielsen of Glenwood; 6 grandchildren: Brady (Rachel) Olson, Jenna Robison, Bergen Olson, Michael (Brooke Winter) Nielsen, Tyler Nielsen, and Luke Nielsen; 3 great-granddaughters: Adley and Ana Olson and Addy Grace Robison; sister, Marie (Darrell) Anderson of Maplewood; in-laws: Kenny Monson of Cannon Falls, Carol Hamann of Appleton, Gladys Zinda of Arizona, Avis Hanson of Arizona, Larry (LouAnn) Hanson of Hugo, James (Phyllis) Hanson of Milan, LeRoy Hanson of Belle Plain, Rolly (Lois) Hanson of Albany and Tim (Denise) Bakken of Appleton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Marie Engebretson; wife, Grace in 2011; siblings: Freddie (Ramona) Engebretson, Millie Engebretson, Carl Engebretson, Gladys (Ed) Mansfield, Bernice (Skip) Zinda, Ralph Engebretson, Fern (Cliff) Rode, and Marlys Monson; two nephews, Shane Engebretson and Kenny Monson, Jr; and a niece, Tammy Zinda.
