Louise Schlueter was born to parents Ignatius (Joe) and Edna (Konieczny) Bonk on January 26, 1920 in Silver Creek, Nebraska. At an early age, the family moved back to Edison Township, Swift County, Minnesota. Louise attended country school until the Eighth Grade and finished high school, graduating from Appleton High School in 1938. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at the Appleton Creamery, Appleton Furniture Store, Holloway Market Company, and West-Con. On May 18, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harvey Schlueter at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Holloway. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage and three boys and three girls. The couple lived in the Appleton – Holloway area all of their lives, where they farmed.
Her greatest joy was her family….supporting and helping them any way that she could. Louise loved the outdoors and was an excellent gardener and a master at canning all the wonderful produce that she grew. Louise and Harvey were terrific dancers and loved to go out and dance on the weekends. Louise was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Appleton, serving as secretary, treasurer, and president. She was also the 5th District President in 1998-1990. She also belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Holloway for many years.
Louise passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Appleton Area Health Services –Hospital. She attained 97 years, 4 months, and 22 days of age. She is survived by her children: Julie Munstermann of Fruita, CO, Chuck (Lori) Schlueter of Chandler, AZ, and Dan (Pam) Schlueter of Buckeye, AZ; son-in-law, Ben Vroman; 9 grandchildren: Christina Nohre (Justin Dallas), Tiffany (Matt) Martens, Angela (Scott) Jones, Dustin (Francine) Schlueter, Tyler (Ashley) Schlueter, Lacy Schlueter, Sara Hower, Tony (Nadine) Vroman, and Amanda (Waylon) Mayer; 15 great-grandchildren: Vada and Iliana Martens, Paisly, Ivy, and Charlotte Jones, Colton and Harlan Schlueter, Cayden and Kenzie Schlueter, Morgan and Ethan Hower, Mia Vroman, and Ava, Wyatt, and Hazel Mayer; sisters: Marie Zalusky, Janette Rheingans, Joan Wederath, and Katie (Roger) Mahoney; brother, David (Anne) Bonk; sister-in-law, Ione Schlueter; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Edna Bonk; husband, Harvey in 2013, daughters: Kathy Vroman and Jane Schlueter; son, Jerry Schlueter; grandson, Chance Schlueter; brothers: Frank and Albert Bonk; sisters: Helen Johnson, Valeria Buchanan, Dorothy Craig, Margaret Wederath, and Marion Bonk. Blessed be the memory of Louise Schlueter.
