Bob came to the city of Appleton 22 years ago as a stranger but that changed quickly as his enthusiasm for life and his love of music made itself felt throughout the community. As a retired professional musician, he made many friends and brought pleasure to hundreds of local people by being a very active member of several community bands including, Swift County Concert Band, Milan Community Band, Montevideo Community Band, and West Central Community Band. He worked hard to encourage excellence by being the best he could be and fostered those traits in all he touched. Performing in parades was one of his favorite pastimes, coming second only to the Music in the Park performances each summer. Whether it was playing trumpet at a sunrise service on Easter morning at one of the local churches or having a jam session with his Bob's BIG Band members or playing a gig in New Ulm with the Jolly Tyrolers, his God given talent brought joy to many. We are told to sing joyfully unto the Lord. In Bob's case, he let his trumpet do his singing.
He was a large part of the Appleton sporting and fishing community. Nothing brought more smiles to his face than the time he spent on the water and he was a ready volunteer to take the “rugrats" (as he called them) fishing on Take a Kid Fishing Day.
Bob lived a life of quiet simplicity…not feeling the need to have "stuff". He loved his family and friends and was devoted to his constant companion "Muffin" a small unassuming terrier. No man could have had a better friend nor a dog a better master. They both will be missed. Bob passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 in St. Cloud Hospital. He is survived by his children: Kimberly Sorsoleil of Denver, CO and Kreg (Wendy) Sorsoleil of Sugar Land, TX; 2 grandsons, Jacob Sorsoleil and Jonathan Hughes; sister, Gayle (Richard) Tofte of Correll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
