Harley E. Hamann

Harley Hamann, age 82, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, in Appleton Area Health Services – Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Visitation will be held Friday, April 7, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Harley Edgar Hamann was born on April 28, 1934, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Eleanor (Suckow) Hamann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Holloway, Minnesota. He grew up in the Holloway area and graduated from Holloway High School. He served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1953 to 1974.

On December 27, 1959, Harley was united in marriage to LaVerne Kathleen Delker in Aberdeen, South Dakota. This union was blessed with over 57 years of marriage and three children. They farmed near Holloway, Minnesota until 1989, when they moved to St. Louis Park, Minnesota. They returned in 1997 after retiring and helped Steve on the farm. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church near Holloway, the Appleton Am Vets, and the Appleton American Legion. He enjoyed Horses and attending the grandchildren’s many events. Harley died on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Appleton Area Health Services Nursing Home in Appleton. He attained the age of 82 years, 11 months and 4 days.

Harley is survived by his wife, LaVerne of Appleton; his children, Sheri (Russell) Gades of Danvers and Steve (Sherry) Hamann of Holloway; six grandchildren: Alycia (Rob) Flannigan, Nathan Gades, Tyler Meyenburg, Lacy Meyenburg, Brittany (Chance) Carlson, and Presley Hamann; one great-grandchild, Kenlee Carlson; a brother, Darrel (Karen) Hamann of Maple Grove; and several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Eleanor Hamann; his son, Robert Hamann; a sister, Phyllis Jensen and her husband Myron. Blessed be his memory.
