Dorothy L. Hargreaves was born on April 4, 1926, in Synnes Township, Stevens County, Minnesota the daughter of Frederick and Lydia (Hayes) Macklin. As a child her family moved to Nebraska for a while before moving back to the Clontarf area and she cleaned houses to help make ends meet. She attended country school. On January 19, 1943, Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Hargreaves at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Clontarf. They were blessed with over 66 years of marriage. They settled near Clontarf. In 1952 they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. She worked for the Honeywell Corporation for 17 years. She and her co-workers joined a bowling league. While employed there she served as the Union Steward for the Teamsters union. In 1982 they moved back to Clontarf.
She was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and in Texas they were part of a Shuffle Board League. Among the things she enjoyed were wintering in Texas and trips to the casino where they won two cars. Dorothy was a “Techie” and loved to tinker with electronic gadgets and computers. She could “Skype” and “Facetime” with her family. She taught her kids how to fix and solder all types of electronic devices and she helped all their Texas friends with all their computer problems. She will be forever remembered by her family as a great mother with a big heart. She was called from this life on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota. She attained the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 2 days.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Mary) Hargreaves, of Sauk Centre, Jim Hargreaves of Carterville, Georgia, and Marion (Dennis) Stoltman of Lake Worth, Florida; 7 grandchildren, Julie Kobis, Toni Gores, Rebecca Potts, Sarah Peterson, Cecelia Phillips, Heidi Hargreaves, and Corey Hargreaves; ten great grandchildren, Steven and Justin Kobis, Hayden and Lucy Gores, Elle and Eli Potts, Noah and Maria Peterson, and Brooklyn and Lenny Phillips, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Lydia, her husband Clarence in 2009, and several siblings. Blessed be her memory.
