Randy Leon Twitchell was born October 21, 1944, in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Wayne and Gladys (Blom) Twitchell.  He was baptized April 8, 1945 by Rev. Roger Schmuck and was confirmed on April 17, 1957 by Rev. Paul Hallett, both at Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Appleton.  Randy was raised in Appleton, graduating from Appleton High School in 1962.  After graduation, Randy attended Mayville State Teachers College where he earned his teaching degree.  On October 24, 1981 Randy was united in marriage to Julie Anne Stroebel by Rev. Lyle Rich at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  This union was blessed with over 35 years together.

Over the years Randy worked a variety of jobs.  In their younger years, Randy and his brother, Rodney, would mow lawns together.  As he got older, Randy set pins at Del’s Dew Well Lanes, delivered papers, and would help his mother, Gladys, at her bakery and her restaurants.  In his adult years Randy worked for the Rail Road, was a bartender at the Holloway Liquor Store, worked as an Elementary School and Substitute teacher, a child support officer for Swift County Human Services, operated a painting business with his wife, Julie, worked at Peg’s Place and later in his career he worked as an Educator and Correctional Officer at Prairie Correction Facility for 18 years.

Randy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, the Appleton Lions, and was President of the Appleton Senior Center and Preserve Appleton Heritage, Inc.  Randy played a leading role in the successful effort to continue operation of the Appleton Senior Center and to preserve the Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Appleton.   He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and shooting pool.

Randy passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 in his home.  He attained 72 years, 4 months, and 14 days of age.  He is survived by his wife, Julie of Appleton; brother, Rodney (Marilyn) Twitchell of Howard Lake; sister-in-law, Noreen (Owen) Schuerman of Appleton; brothers-in-law: Dale Arneson of Granite Falls and Terryl (Judith) Stroebel of Holloway; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Gladys (Blom) Twitchell; sister, Kay Arneson; parents-in-law, Julius and Esther Stroebel; brothers-in-law, Merle Stroebel and Maurice Stroebel; two sisters-in-law who died in infancy.  Blessed be the memory of Randy Leon Twitchell.
