Virgil Ray Theodore Stock was born September 21, 1932 on the home farm in Shible Township, Swift County, Minnesota, to parents Adolph and Lydia (Rau) Stock. He was baptized October 16, 1932 and was confirmed April 14, 1946, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church –Shible Township, by Rev. Paul Gierke. Virgil was raised in Shible Township, where he attended Parochial School at District 42 through the Eighth Grade. He then attended Appleton High School, where he graduated in 1950. On December 28, 1952 Virgil was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Clarice Ann Hamann, at Immanuel Lutheran Church –Shible Township, by Rev. G.E. Walter. This union was blessed with over 64 years of marriage and six children: Douglas, Micheal, Jeffrey, Debra, Lori, and Paul. In 1953 Virgil enlisted in the United States Army. Upon completion of Basic Training in Ft. Riley, KS, he served as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne in Ft. Brag, NC until 1955. He later served with the MN National Guard. Over the years Virgil worked as a farmer, did custom hay bailing, owned S&S Truck Line, and worked at Bowen Wilson Trailer Sales. In 1975 Virgil opened Star Trailer Sales, which is now owned by his four sons and one grandson, Jacob. Virgil was an officer for Permit Truckers Association, a member of the AMVETS, American Legion, and the Jaycees, and was a longtime supporter of the FFA. In his younger years he held various offices and positions at Immanuel Lutheran Church –Shible Township and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato, such as Sunday School Superintendent and Elder. He was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Virgil liked to hunt and to play basketball, bowl, play softball, and golf. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and especially enjoyed teaching them his hook shot. After losing his parents at such a young age, his mother-in-law, Elfrieda, had a special place in his heart. He enjoyed a close relationship with all of his nieces and nephews…they had a way of making him feel special. Virgil passed away January 20, 2017, in his home. He attained 84 years of age. Virgil is survived by his wife, Clarice of Appleton; children: Douglas (Karna) Stock of Mankato, Micheal Stock of Mankato, Jeffrey (Beverly) Stock of North Mankato, Debra (Todd) Sandberg of Ortonville, Lori (Ted) Ziemann of Appleton, Paul (Cindy) Stock of North Mankato; 18 grandchildren: Caleb (Christina) Stock, Garrett (Daniela) Stock, Matthew (Mandy) Stock, Maria (Brady) Krohnberg, Meagan (Joey) Dobie, Jocelyn (Tim) DeSutter, Jacob (Cassie) Stock, Allie Jo (Nick) Wilson, Alicia (Ryan) Poole, Travis Sandberg, Zachary Jensen, Rachel Jensen, Noah Jensen, Eric (Hannah) Ziemann, Joshua Ziemann, Graham (Christa) Stock, Isaiah Stock, Avery Stock; 12 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Oliver Stock, Nathan Jaeger, Riley Krohnberg, Madison, Kael, and Jiles DeSutter, Brynna and Alexa Stock, Jaylyn, Kayler, and Lync Wilson; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Meichsner of Morris, Angela Hoffman of Wheaton, Carol Hamann of Appleton; brother-in-law, Loren (Phyllis) Harste of Morris; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Lydia Stock; brothers: Leonard and Lawrence Stock; sisters: Dorothy Hans, Gladys Schmidt, Donna Harste; grandson, Jordan Stock.
