Vera “Susie” May Schulz was born on March 11, 1929 at the Appleton Hospital in Minnesota, the daughter of Rudolf and Anna (Schultz) Vollmer.  She weighed 2 lbs. at birth and was baptized the same day by Rev. C. Anderson at the hospital.  Despite her tiny start, Susie continued to grow on the family farm, attended school in Holloway, and was confirmed on July 4, 1943 by Rev. Adolph Kilian at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moyer Township.  On September 18, 1949, Susie was united in marriage with Albin Schulz at St. John’s by Rev. Reinhold Winn.  She enjoyed being a farm wife, homemaker, and working at the Appleton Hospital as a dietary aide.  Susie was a member of the Zion Quilter’s and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Among her many interests were gardening, growing flowers, making donuts, and cooking – she loved feeding all visitors.

Susie was called from this life on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Appleton Area Health Services.  She attained 87 years, 9 months, and 29 days of age.  She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Reinke of Appleton; grandchildren, Ivan (Dayle) Reinke and Hans Reinke; great-grandchildren, Brett, Conrad and Katelyn Reinke; brothers, Donald (Lois) Vollmer of Largo FL and Rueben (Tamara) Vollmer of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and brother-in-law, Merlin (Ruby) Schulz of Holloway.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf and Anna Vollmer; husband, Albin Schulz; sisters, Marlys ( Howard) Mesenbrink and Edith (Virgil) Schliep; and son-in-law, David Reinke.
