Allan Michael Hammerschmidt

Allan Michael Hammerschmidt was born in Wabasso, MN, on January 7th, 1942 to Michael and Margaret (Woelfel) Hammerschmidt.  During his senior year at St. Anne’s Catholic School he met Mary Jane Julius, who would become his beloved wife of 21 years prior to her passing in 1982.  After graduating from Mankato State University he and Mary Jane moved to Milan where he taught Art and Industrial Art at the Milan Public School and later, Lac qui Parle Valley High School, from 1967 until his retirement in 1999.

Most will know Allan as an outspoken, active member of the Milan community, always ready with an opinion, a story and a laugh (not always in that order).  His family is heartbroken and cannot believe he is gone so soon but is grateful for cherished memories and know that he will always be with them.  Rest in peace dear Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa.  There will never be another like you.

Allan passed away peacefully on his 75th birthday, January 7, 2017 surrounded by his family at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House.  He’d been air-lifted and admitted to the St Cloud Hospital on January 3rd after being discovered unresponsive in his home due to diabetic complications. Allan was the adored father of five, who all survive him:  Jeff (Shirley) Hammerschmidt of Lake Elsinore, California, Gail (Stephen) Quinn of Minneapolis, Lisa (David) Dieter of Tracy, Barbara (Paul) Streed of Dodge Center, and Michael Hammerschmidt of Chaska; sister, Marlys (Charlie) Ludewig; sister-in-law, Barbara (Donovan) Goblirsch; brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Julius;  the devoted grandfather of nine: Allyson, Amanda, Christopher, Daniel, Matthew, Andrew, Sophia, Joseph and Peter; great grandfather of four Liam, Michael, Mary Jane and Payton; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
