Evelyn Rosetta Oglesby

Evelyn Oglesby, 91, formerly of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Mayo Health System in Red Wing, Minnesota.

The Oglesby family will greet family and friends beginning at 10 am, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Pilgrim Congregation Church in Benson, Minnesota.  A memorial service will begin at 11 am, with lunch to follow.    Burial will be in the Appleton, Minnesota Cemetery at 1:30 pm.

Evelyn was born on September 16, 1925, in Fairfield Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Augusta C. (Thielke) Schliep and Christ Schliep.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Congregational Church.  Evelyn was raised in the Fairfield Township and Clontarf area, and graduated from Benson High School.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Dwight Charles Oglesby on August, 22, 1948.  This union was blessed with 42 years together and 11 children.  She was a long-term resident of Appleton, Minnesota and active in the First Congregational Church in Appleton.  She was a member of the Congregational Ladies Aid.  Evelyn was active in bible study, public speaking, and ministering to nursing homes.  She was very involved with summer bible school, the church bazaar, salad luncheons, and other church activities.  She enjoyed crafts, card making, and playing games involving cards and dice.  Evelyn also enjoyed music, especially playing harmonica.

Evelyn is survived by 11 children; Arthur (Ann) Oglesby of St. Paul, MN, Russell (Joanne) of Marshall, MN, Steve of Van Nuys, CA, Barbara (Michael) Flinn of Cannon Falls, MN, Larry (Marianne) of Normal, IL, Mona (Stephen) Vernstrom of Maple Grove, MN, Warren of Northfield, MN, Elaine (Tim) Koski of Murfreesboro, TN, Nina Shrout of Arlington, TX, Glen (Shawna) of Champlain, MN, Lea (Michael) Lopez of Matthews, NC; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; six siblings; Lucille Reuss of Benson, MN, Melvin (Ruth) Schliep of Hopkins, MN, Phyllis Harstad of Benson, MN, Marcella Razink of Benson, MN, Gladys (Michael) Ascheman of Lonsdale, MN, Helen Klucas of Benson, MN; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Charles Oglesby; her parents, Christ and Augusta Schliep; and six siblings Harry, Henry, Lawrence, Clarence, John, and Mabel.
