Wayne Myron Hastings was born March 17, 1937 in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Earl and Vieva Azel (DeLong Dopp) Hastings. He was raised in Appleton, where he attended school. Wayne left school at the age of 15, to work for the railroad. In 1965 Wayne was hired by C.D. Bower to help with his construction business. The company eventually exchanged hands and Wayne retired from Riley Brothers. He was a hard worker throughout his entire life.
In 1961 Wayne married Carole Peterson and this union was blessed with a son, James. Wayne and Carole’s marriage ended in divorce. On December 31, 1966 Wayne was united in marriage to Frances Wishnoski McTighe by Rev. Herbert Hauck in Watertown, South Dakota. Wayne and Frances were blessed with 25 years together. Frances had four children that Wayne loved and raised as if they were his own. He hunted and fished most of his life. Deer hunting was a yearly joy for him. Wayne would hunt with his brother, Lee, and good friend, Chuck…they were the three musketeers and always came home with nice bucks!
The summer was a busy time for Wayne. He would spend all of his time in the garden. He had to be the first to get his tomatoes planted…so that he would be the first to have them ready for sale! Wayne could be found in his garden from sunrise to sunset. In later years, his family began to help him in the garden, as they knew how much he enjoyed working the soil and watching everything grow. It was his passion to be out in the garden…and to see his joy as the vegetables started to sell was the best.
Wayne loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wayne passed away on December 26, 2016 at the age of 79. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Wanke of Montevideo; sons: James (Deb) Hastings of Coon Rapids, Thomas McTighe, Dennis (Deb) McTighe, and Michael (Mary) McTighe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Vieva Hastings; wife, Frances; brother, Lee Hastings; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Fifty years ago today, Wayne and Frances were joined in marriage…today they are reunited in Paradise forever! Blessed be the memory of Wayne Hastings.
