Frank M. Holt, age 92, of rural Murdock, died on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Gabriel House in Murdock. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 22, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Franklin Melbourne Holt was born on January 18, 1924 in Jewell, Iowa, the son of George J. and Anna (Braland) Holt. He was baptized on May 18, 1924 by Rev. A. H. Toggsted at Tabitha Lutheran Church in Rose Grove, Iowa. He was confirmed in Windom, Minnesota. He grew up in Windom, Minnesota and attended country school through the 8th grade. Frank served his country during World War II in the United States Merchant Marines from 1944 - 1945. Then he joined the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division until 1946. He especially enjoyed jumping out of airplanes. During his service, he traveled many places from New York to Galveston, TX; Fort Knox, KY to Fort Bragg, NC; through the Panama Canal, New Guinea, Australia, and the Philippines to name a few.
On June 12, 1955, Frank was united in marriage to Lenora (Fischer) Holt by Rev. Petersen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. James, Minnesota. This union was blessed with over 61 years of marriage. They lived in Minneapolis and he worked at the Ford Motor plant for 16 years. In 1959, Frank bought the family farm, west of Sunburg, and farmed on the weekends while he continued to work at the Ford plant until 1968. They then moved out to the farm and made it their home. He farmed and milked cows until his retirement in 1988 and continued to help his sons on the family farm.
Frank was a member of the Kerkhoven American Legion and a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson. He enjoyed woodworking, making clocks, and inventing small projects. He was called from this life on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Gabriel House in Murdock, Minnesota. He attained the age of 92 years, 10 months and 29 days.
Frank is survived by his wife, Lenora Holt of Murdock; children: Marilyn (Dale) Larson of Pennock, Ramona (Jim) Just of Kerkhoven, Joanne (Shawn) Kujawa of Spicer, Dennis (Lori) Holt of Murdock, and David (Cathy) Holt of Murdock; 14 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Holt; son, Ronald at 14 months; two brothers, James and Milford Holt; and a sister, Virgean Ziska. Blessed be his memory.
