Elaine Genevieve Schwendemann was born November 21, 1928 at her Grandparents homestead near Glenwood Minnesota to Melvin and Leona (Foner) Cummins. She grew up in the Glenwood area graduating from Villard High School in 1947. She worked as a sales clerk in Benson at Ben Franklin and then Clark’s Drug until she was 80 years.
She met Herman Schwendemann while roller skating. They were married August 20, 1950 at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Five children were born to this union. Elaine considered her greatest treasure her family. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and always enjoyed family events and reunions. She was frequently spotted with a camera around her neck and enjoyed her pictures immensely.
She was a wonderful cook and baker and shared her talents with everyone she knew. Her potato salad was legendary! She loved her vegetable garden spending countless hours canning and freezing the surplus. Her flower gardens added color to her world.
Elaine passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane in Benson. She attained 87 years, 9 months, and 25 days of age. She is survived by her children: Linda (Jim) Budolfson of Meridian, ID, Jim (Rhonda) Schwendemann of Benson, Larry (Darla) Schwendemann of Starbuck, Nancy (Lonnie) Myrom of Worthington and Jason (Tami) Schwendemann of Benson; ten grandchildren: Heather (Jeremy) Jensen, David (Anna) Budolfson, Judd Schwendemann, Cayla (Mark Erlandson) Schwendemann, Grant Schwendemann, Emily Schwendemann, Alexander (Katie Kroshus) Myrom, Kinzie (Adam) Lund, Irelyn Schwendemann and Hudsyn Schwendemann; five great-grandchildren: Bryce, Alyssa and Braden Jensen and Owen and Amelia Budolfson; siblings: Gloria Town of Park Rapids, Violet Razink of Alexandria, Margie Hoff of Menahga, Bonnie Federation of Hudson, WI and John Cummins of Nevis; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1987; parents, Melvin and Leona Cummins; brother, Virgil Cummins and sister, Dorothy Vollan.
