Myrtle Mary Knutson, age 103, of Benson, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane. Visitation will be held 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 29, 2016, from 12 – 1 p.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Myrtle Mary Knutson was born June 22, 1913 in Swift County to Oneidus Houde and Estella (Goulet) Houde. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended Benson High School. Myrtle was united in marriage to Sylvester Theodore Knutson. This union was blessed with two children, David and Estella. Myrtle lived in Benson and worked at S & L Store, Benson Produce and Fingerhut. She was active in her church mission group, a leader for Girl Scout and Cub Scout groups, and helped several children participate in Kid Day by designing and making costumes. She enjoyed auctions and refinishing furniture, but always found time for family and friends.
Myrtle died on July 19, 2016 at Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane. She attained 103 years and 27 days of age. She is survived by her son, David Knutson, and wife, Nancy, of Richmond, MN; daughter, Estella Torres, of Seattle WA; five grandchildren: Jenny (Don) Stahl, Troy Knutson, Theresa (Carl) Higa, Stephen Torres, and Dion Torres; two step-grandchildren, David (Rhonda) Dragan and Sue (Howie) Schuetz; three great-grandchildren: Josh Rieck, Kory Rieck and Ethan Stahl; three step-great-grandchildren: Nicole (Martell) Dennis, Travis Dragan, Tyler Dragan; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Estella and Oneidus Houde; her husband, Sylvester Knutson and one brother, Lloyd Houde.
