Harris Jerome Gjerdingen, age 95, of Willmar, formerly of Rolling Forks Township, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016, with visitation for one hour prior, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls.
Harris Jerome Gjerdingen was born on May 1, 1921 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Odin Einer and Julia (Skare) Gjerdingen. He was baptized and confirmed at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church by Rev. Bieto. Harris grew up in Rolling Forks Township, Pope County, attending grade school at District 38 and graduating from Benson High School. He worked in carpentry for two years in Benson. On December 5, 1944, Harris was united in marriage with Doris Oleanna Iverson. This union was blessed with more than 71 years of marriage, two children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. They farmed in Rolling Forks Township until retirement in 1990 and moved to Willmar in 1999. Harris enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, dancing, playing cards, and watching sports.
Harris died on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home. He attained 95 years, 2 months, and 8 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Donald (Linda) Gjerdingen of Rolling Forks Township and Dawn (Jerry) Platt of Willmar; grandchildren: Ross (Heather) Gjerdingen, Jory Gjerdingen, Justin (Alissa) Platt, Jennifer (Jon) Lankenau, and Joshua Platt; great-grandchildren: Bailee and Morgan Gjerdingen, Odin Gjerdingen, Jaylyn and Jordyn Platt, and Jackson Lankenau; and sister, Doris Mae (Duane) Neuhaus of DeGraff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odin and Julia Gjerdingen; sister, Alvina Monson-Klyve, and brother, Orville Gjerdingen.
