Gay Lynette Amundson

Gay L. Amundson, age 65, died on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in her home in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Benson.

Gay Lynette Amundson, age 65, was born on March 23, 1951 in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Jerome “Jerry” and Carol (Tollefson) Johannessen. She was baptized on July 12, 1951 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church by her uncle Pastor Pete Reinhard and confirmed on October 30, 1966 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. Gay grew up in Benson where she graduated from Benson High School and then moved to Hibbing where she attended Hibbing Community College. She was married to Calvin Amundson on September 15, 1979 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson and this union was blessed with two children, Brooke and Dana.

Gay lived in multiple locations including Hibbing, Alexandria, Elbow Lake, and Hamilton, Montana. She spent many years in Norcross, Minnesota and moved back to Benson in 1997. She worked at Swift County Homes for the last several years and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Gay enjoyed antique refinishing, reading, church activities, animals, and she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was called from this life on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at her home in Benson.

She is survived by her daughter, Brooke Amundson of St. Paul; her son, Dana (Cindy) Amundson of Fargo; a grandson, Austin Amundson; her parents, Jerome and Carol Johannessen of Benson; and her siblings: Gary Johannessen of Minneapolis, Kim (Bonnie) Johannessen of Plymouth, Cynthia (Jon) Thronson of Willmar, Toby (Deb) Johannessen of Benson, and Melissa (Jeff) Janzen of Rockford.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Johannessen, and her ex-husband, Cal Amundson. Blessed be the memory of Gay L. Amundson.
