Jeannette E. Wolfmeyer

Jeannette Eilene Wolfmeyer was born August 10, 1923 in Ortonville, Minnesota, the daughter of Alvin Lewis and Ruby Pearl (Eaton) Wolfmeyer.  She was raised in rural Ortonville in Akron Township, Big Stone County.  Jeannette attended country school at District 14 and graduated from Ortonville High School.  After high school she attended Normal Training in Ortonville.  Jeannette taught school in country schools in Big Stone and Swift Counties, Correll, Wood Lake, Granite Falls, and in Madison many years for a total of 42 years, before retiring in 1984.  She was once honored as “Teacher of the Year.”

Jeannette lived at the home farm with her father, Alvin “Bill”, until 1967 when they moved to Appleton.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Appleton, where she served in a variety of capacities.  Jeannette traveled extensively, having visited all 50 States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  She enjoyed playing cards, reading and crocheting. She had lifelong involvement in County Fairs beginning with 4H as a child and through many years volunteering at the Swift County Fair. After retiring, Jeannette volunteered at Pioneer Public TV, church, and the Appleton Nursing Home.  In 2007, Jeannette sold her home and moved to Skyview Plaza in Morris, where she resided until February, 2015, when she moved into West Wind Village, also in Morris.  Jeannette met new friends at West Wind Village and enjoyed playing Bingo with them.  Above all, Jeannette enjoyed being part of the many families who called her one of their own.  She will also be long remembered by many former students.

Jeannette passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 in West Wind Village, at the age of 92.  She is survived by several cousins and many special friends.  Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin “Bill” and Pearl Wolfmeyer.
