Roger James Monson was born October 23, 1942 in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of Murl and Mildred (Wente) Monson.  He was baptized in Ortonville and was raised north of Correll.  After high school, Roger joined the army from 1960 to 1966.  He was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, MO; Fort Dix, NJ; and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.

Roger returned to Minnesota upon his discharge from the Army in 1966.  Over the years he worked as a farm-hand for various area farmers, worked a garbage truck route, worked as a quarry worker, and a grain elevator construction worker.  Most recently, Roger worked for Econar in Appleton and as a part-time janitor at the Milan School, until 2007 when his health would not permit him to work any longer.  Roger enjoyed socializing at the Paddle Bar, watching TV, taking drives, playing cards, and in his younger years, hunting.

He passed away May 8, 2016 in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center, at the age of 73. Roger is survived by his brother, Ron Monson of Appleton, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Murl Monson and Mildred DeLong.
