Shirley Ann Loen was born on May 11, 1942 in Benson, Minnesota the daughter of Lloyd Melvin and Alice Elizabeth (Coryell) Lee. She grew up on the farm in rural Benson and was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church. She attended Benson schools and later attended St. Cloud State College.
On December 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to Bruce Stanley Loen at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with over 53 years of marriage. She was a farm wife, mother, and she worked at the Swift County Extension Office, where she developed the clover bud program. She worked in sales at Barbara J’s and in quality control at Inovex. She was a member of the Benson FFA Alumni Chapter and 4-H.
She enjoyed gardening and music. She loved spending time with family and friends and loved to send cards and notes to the people she cared about. She delighted in helping with the youth and she taught Sunday school and she was a youth advisor at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson for 18 years. Shirley was called from this life on Tuesday morning, April 26, at the Gabriel House in Murdock. She attained the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 16 days.
She is survived by her husband Bruce of Benson; her children Nancy Loen (Mark Erickson) and Jeff Loen; grandchildren Jordan and Rylee Erickson; and a sister Patricia (Rolfe) Gomer; all of Benson. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Alice Lee. Blessed be the memory of Shirley Ann Loen.
