Lamae Radtke

LaMae Sandra Radtke was born on January 23, 1933 in McVille North Dakota, the daughter of Oscar P. and Lavina (Myers) Quam. She grew up and attended country school in rural Hamar, North Dakota. She graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, North Dakota and then attended one year of college at Dakota Business College. She then worked as a secretary for Delaware Insurance in Herman, Minnesota.

On June 29, 1952, LaMae was united in marriage to Verlan Dale Radtke at Sigdal Lutheran Church in rural Tolma, North Dakota. This union was blessed with over 54 years of marriage. They settled on the farm in Hegbert Township. She worked at Butter Kernel Canning in Big Stone, South Dakota and then, in 1968, she began work as a home health aide for Countryside Public health for 28 years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of rural Appleton, serving there as a Sunday school teacher; a member of the Ladies Aid; and, along with her husband, was a part of the Tape Ministry at church. Her hobbies included music, gardening, reading, writing letters, and sewing. After Verlan’s death in May 2007, she became a resident of the Appleton Area Nursing Home. She was called from this life on Saturday morning, March 26, 2016 at the Appleton Area Hospital. She attained the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 3 days.

LaMae is survived by her daughter, Dawn Radtke; sister-in-law, Darlene (Orville) Koosmann and their children: Tim (Natalie) Koosmann, Wendy (Bennett) Zierke, and Wanda (Gordon) Weber and their families; and sister-in-law, Jean Brown and her children Paul Quam and Bill Quam and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlan; her parents; a brother, Oscar M. Quam; and two daughters and one son in infancy. Blessed be her memory.
